Troubleshoot Oxygen reading Problem.

TROUBLESHOOT OXYGEN READING PROBLEM IN ANESTHESIA MACHINE. 


Siesta I whispa As You Know Now most common anesthesia machine.bue number of common problem arises in to that one of them is Oxygen reading faulty.
Ex. If 100% oxygen given from central line it shows 230% means higher value either 70 -80% lower value.that time the main problem arise with anesthetic doctors.the actually machine is delivering 100% but somehow problem arise with sensing element.Oxygen sensor attached with the inspiration patient circuit you can show image 1 for that.but there are mainly 3 way to troubleshoot that problem.



  1.  To Run O2 Calibration Test in anesthesia machine.
Sometimes when machine use long time in surgery that time due to that problem comes in anesthesia machine.that time run the O2 calibration test.just go to set up and click on O2 calibration after that follow normal instruction given by the machine in that the machine trying to make oxygen stable,mostly the problem solve by this calibration. but if any hardware problem we have to move out on 2 and 3 way.

   2. To Clean O2 Sensor

when solution not comes out from 1st we have to move up to this step,sometime water and any dust particle inside the O2 sensor that time it shows us wrong reading that time we have to clean the O2 sensor and make it dry properly and after that follow the step 1 run O2 calibration again,thus if problem regarding to that it will resolve but if it was not solved than and only move up to 3rd step.

3. Replace O2 Sensor.

if After doing above 2 steps we do not have any way we have to replace the O2 sensor but after that even please run the calibration test.thus 100% problem is been resolved.

How To Perform Leak test.

Siesta i whispa is common Anesthesia machine use widely. but it not taking self test every day.we have to perform the test manually day by day before using on patient.it was quite easy just follow the give steps that will clear whole idea how to take leak test in anesthesia machine.


  • Connect the mains supply of O2 air,N2O and C Air.
  • connect the adult patient circuit and block the patient 'Y',And connect the test lung.
  • switch on the mains supply and start the machine.
  • automatically shows message on display "WOULD YOU LIKE TO PERFORM FULL TEST CLICK YES FOR CONTINUE".
  • Kindly press yes by pressing the rotating knobs thus it automatically start the test.
  • After it give you message to block the 'Y' and check the fresh air gas flow by test the flow meter left side of the machine or you can refer fig 1.
  • After that set the APL Valve to the 35 from the SP.(For detail about APL valve please gone through my first page)
  • after that set the fresh air gas flow to 5-6ltr and press the O2 flush until the respiration bag got full.
  • After that close the fresh air gas flow and let machine take the leak test through the Integrated breathing system and internal circuit.
  • < 100 ml/Min is acceptable value for the machine but for use in patient its value must be <50 ml/Min
  • After close the APL valve to sp remove the Y piece so leakage test in valve begins after the compilation of that process it will automatically give the value of Leakage.

How to open Anesthesia Machine.

SIESTA I WHISPA-DAMECA



Most common Anaesthesia machine Siesta i Whispa. Manufacturer Dameca.


  • I m going to show you how to open the machine that will help you out for troubleshooting common problem(ex leakage in machine, Tidal Volume, Wrong Reading Of oxygen) of This Machine.



  • First We Start From the Front look of the machine



  • Mainly problem with this machine is Leakage


  • Mainly  leakage in machine from 3 Part.

       1-In Patient Circuit
       2-In IBS
       3-Internal leakage

  • In Patient Circuit

  • We can clean the patient circuit either replace the patient circuit.mostly disposable patient circuit is suitable for prevent leakage in this particular machine.

  • In IBS

  • As per my experience Mostly leakage,tidal volume and oxygen Reading  problem only because of some issue inside IBS.


  • We need to open the IBS and need to clean all the part.
  • IBS consist of part that can easily removable.
  • Please have a look on my next image that will clear things how to remove all the part from IBS






    • Once Remove everything it look like below shown in to the fig,We need to clean each and every part of IBS mostly problem of the leakage solve by cleaning part shown in to the next fig.                         


  • Internal leakage.                                                                                                                                  

  • We need to open the machine in that case from the back side,Please follow the instruction
       1)Disconnect the mains                                                          
       2)Remove the oxygen and N2O Cylinder From back side  
       3)Do Not Romove any other connection from back side

                                                                                                     

  • After that at bottom you can see 4 main screw that open by the Small Size if LN Key
  • Kindly remove the fan connection before you remove the mental sheet after open the screw.
  • Now You can see  the ventilator assembly part in front of you.


  • You can see Left and right side two bolts When you remove them that ventilator assembly part comes out like a trolly so you can see everything infront of you that can help you in found the leakage.

  • As you can see some of the tubing are going in upper direction so to see it clearly you have to remove the upper sheet that consist of 2 bolts..so the both part will open so you can easily diagnose the exact problem.just have a look on the next image that clear your idea how exactly it looks.

  • Once you open this two sheet you can eaisly change any part in this machine.
  • Be carefull while open this two part of the machine because that two part consist electrical as well as mech. part.
  • It consist mainly 2 large tubing inside first have a look on that two that will solve your 90% of problem.
